Alpha Kappa Alpha, the first Greek letter organization founded by and for Black college women, was established on January 15, 1908 by 16 ambitious and dedicated women at Howard University.
Alpha Kappa Alpha has made a commitment to reinvigorate "The Spirit of Alpha Kappa Alpha" through increased collaboration with each other and acknowledgement that our members lead diverse and busy lives. Our goal is to prepare our members and our youth for expanded entrée into the 21st Century and greater opportunities for collaboration through increased exposure to technology.
Alpha Kappa Alpha women join together, first as sisters, and then as community partners to engage in "spirited" leading and learning and the development of lasting friendships. High individual and collective achievement through scholarship and service is the hallmark of Alpha Kappa Alpha's programs.
The international Program theme for 2002-2006 is "THE SPIRIT OF ALPHA KAPPA ALPHA". The focus is on Education. The five areas included in the International Program and implemented in the Ivy AKAdemy are:
Target I - Education
Target II - The Black Family
Target III - Health
Target IV - Economics
Target V - The Arts |
