To accomplish its mission, VOICES for Alabama's Children researches the conditions of children in our state; communicates those conditions to those who can work for change; and, advocates for public policy and private programs that will improve the lives of children and families.

VOICES may be most recognized for the Alabama Kids Count Data Book. The Data Book is compiled, produced, and published by VOICES for Alabama's Children. The 2003 Data Book is the ninth in a series of annual reports that identify some of the factors that may prevent children from reaching their maximum potential. The 2003 Data Book ranks child well-being in Alabama's 67 counties based on 18 indicators.

The goal of the book is to present a holistic, numerical portrait of the status of children in our state using the best available data. Communities around the state, grant writers, policy makers, the media and other child advocates use information provided in the Data Book to identify and address the challenges children face in their area.

In addition to Kids Count, Voices for Alabama Children provides many additional programs to improves the lives of children in Alabama, as well as advocacy on issues relating to the well-being of children and families.
